We've been connecting so well on DOJO that I don't feel the value is in the blog post as much as the time warrants. It seems as most parents are using that medium and we can safely say that the time can be used a bit better with the students and families. Don't worry! We'll still keep you up to date with DOJO and refer you here when needed! Thanks!

Examining our stories and comparing to exemplars to see what to work on. The passing of the estimation jar! The last one had 1400 coffee beans. I wonder what will be in it next... Valentine Tag in gym. After a warm up, we played a game of tag where the broken hearts froze others in sadness until Cupid came and offered a Valentine. Once they have completed the task on the back of the Valentine, they were cured! Mrs. Thorson wrapped up some bookmark making in Library. We completed some assessments in language. Valentine's Day celebrations! Its fun to work on our spelling practice by creating fun puzzles too! Has us writing them out over and over and then searching for them. Then a bit of fun in the library with Mrs. Thorson. Working hard on our story write for this term. And a special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to AVA!
I'm not just talking about my height! These kids crammed a lot into a quick three day week! Fun and games in the gym Working on words. Indoor recess fun. Mad Minute challenges Valentines Art Music Drum Presentation Full story practice and self evaluation in prep for our term 2 assessment. Anti-Bullying Awareness Board Peru Presentation

Spelling Games Learning about weight and capacity in our measurement unit. The passing of the Estimation Jar. It was a girl's sweep this week. Outdoor fun in celebration of Winter Walk Day! Along our route we had several mini challenges and tasks that let us explore the great fitness equipment that is provided for the public. We also high-fived a friendly community member and took in the hockey game at the rink. A fun and refreshing way to finish the week! And not to forget a special "Happy Birthday!" to Kaydence!

See you all next week! It feels like we never even left. The kids have rolled into January working hard and ready to go. So let's follow their lead get to it. Here's what we did this week!
Quick side note: Before the holidays, when we switched to one blog post for the week, the class decided that we should substitute dojo points for something other than blog posts as some were not able to get on it. Today, they decided that we would do random agenda checks for parent signatures instead! So be sure to check out your child's agenda each night and sign away. You never know when Mrs. Kelln will award agenda dojo points!
Have a great weekend everyone! It's going to be a long one, BUT mostly photos! Fraction Christmas search, splash math learning, and language arts persuasive ornament designs. Math review game creation! Working on all our skills of 2016 for our friends to play with us. Some partner fun challenges and an introduction to directed drawing. Our fraction snack was a HUGE success! We appreciate all the yummy items parents sent for us to fraction up and enjoy! We had many lessons rolled into this one including, table setting, dining ettiquette, safe knife handling, cleaning up messes, and other life skills! Oh, and a whole lot of math! Thank you again parents- the kids had a blast today! Free Swim Day! One of the favorite of the year! Language Arts puppet story telling, locker clean out, Kelln Koupons, and excitement building for tomorrow's PJ day! PJ Day! We built forts, shared laughs and yummy treats, worked on our math skills (yes, I even made them work today!), learned about Christmas traditions in Peru, watched a Christmas Carol, reflected on being grateful and kind, and of course our Carol Sing. Merry Christmas. Have a safe and happy holiday and see you all next YEAR!This week has been Christmas central as we prepared for the Christmas concert and generally got into the spirit of things. Our mystery craft, ripped paper trees had us using our fine motor skills to carefully craft our trees. This was more challenging than many thought it would be in the end. It's hard to rip paper just so without ripping it more than you'd like. And don't even get started on the complexities of the star! They did great problem solving as they worked through this activity all in an effort to have it ready for you to see on the night of the concert. In health we discussed the plenty we have here in our homes and the needs of people all over the world. We brainstormed what we were grateful for beyond the typical toys and material things. 3K is grateful for...We also continued our lessons in math. Starting with finding a "BALANCE" between work and fun! We worked on our fraction skills to make sure we were ready for the Fraction Snack next week. And we welcomed Mrs. Elliot who helped us to fill our buckets and teach us how to fill others'. We also continued our novel story around "Big George" but have left off starting the chapter titled "Off With His Head". For some reason, the students sure wanted to continue! But we did get to do our reading around the lovely Christmas tree out front for a change of scenery. Thank you to Mrs. Marshall for snapping our photo! We worked on our ornaments to get them all strung and wrapped. Who knows, there might be a lovely smelling present under (or on) your tree this year! Kyle M and family also brought in a great activity that let us work on following instructions. It was a neat Christmas tree folding activity with picture instructions. Many had difficulty but worked hard as a group. For some, it ended up as a lovely snowflake instead. Either way, a nice result. Thank you M family for your fun craft! We also did the estimation jar. Hayden had the closest guess for Jaydon's malt ball treats and he passed the jar to her. She's brought in some popped popcorn for the students to guess next. I wonder who will be closest? We also completed some work around comparison skills. Thank you to our parents who took our survey (23 of you!!). It was neat to note the similarities and the differences between the kid's responses and our parents. Especially around the money question... good opportunity for discussion around gratitude and giving again! Here are the results! And FINALLY! The day of the concert arrived. Thank you to those who came to our afternoon performance and also to those who joined us for the evening. The kids we're filled with fun and not a small dose of laughter as they got ready. And of course, did an amazing job! So proud of you all 3k! Despite being cooped up most of the week, it was a good one! Here's what we did: Langauge Arts
Mathematics
Science (Sound Unit)
Fun StuffOrnaments! Such fun using our math knowledge to follow the recipe. Then we got to decorate them. Look for these when they go home, the kids are working really hard! No gym- gym. Yoga 3K Style! Cookie Decorating. We write to Benoit each spelling list, so this was a chance for him to join us and make a personal connection. He worked with the kids to decorate the gingerbread cookies and then we all ate them! The nice thing was we had to sneak in some fractions and division to distribute all of the candy decorations. ;-) 3K CaresFinally, a special Happy Birthday to both Hayden and Zac! I hope everyone enjoys a lovely weekend and I'll see you on Monday!
Honestly, we really have the best parent group around I think. Between your quick response to the call for supplies to fast survey responses- I'm in awe. Several students showed up with supplies for our ornaments already today; we have lots of flour, a roll of wax paper, salt, some cinnamon, a couple rolling pins, and some cookie cutters. And it hasn't even been 24 hours! Thank you for your amazing help! If you happen to have any extra cinnamon lying around or some cookie cutters, rolling pins, or wax paper to lend, we'd still appreciate it! Thanks! This morning I sent a survey out to our parent group and I can't believe that by 3:00 I have 18/26 parents responded already! That just floors me! i was hoping I might get close to that many total! An inital analysis of the data surprised me. I wasn't aware that the REMIND system was so useful to parents. Also, it seems parents like knowing what the kids are up to but perhaps not in as much detail or as frequently as nearly half would prefer end of the week summaries. No problem! We can do that. And it also seems that parents quite like the DOJO for the kids, but wish to keep the communication between parents and I on REMIND. Again, easy to do. Thank you all so much for your feedback! I'll check it out and see how we can condense things a bit and start next week with a plan. In the meantime... here's what we did today!
Happy birthday to Sarah this weekend and happy belated birthdays to Lilly, Rylan and Dane! Wow, so many birthday's this time of year!
