How do you know which words your child spelled correctly and which they didn't? And the ones they didn't, how do you know why they spelled them wrong?
These are the questions I've pondered in how to get spelling results home. I am trying something new this year and, just like the other grade 3 room, coiling our spelling tests so we can see progress over the year. Anytime you'd like to take a peek at your child's actual tests, just pop in after school. You child can show you to the spelling bin and you can see first hand how awesome they did and where you can focus the study for the next list.
However, each spelling test day your child will complete a results sheet. This week I'm trying the RED/GREEN approach (but no duct tape here!). Students copy down the correct spelling for the words they did not get correct. The trick is they write the letters they knew correctly in GREEN while the letters or other errors are in RED.
Take a look at the examples below to better see the technique. You can see corrections for capitals, missed letters, letter size, reversed letters, and extra letters!
With Thanksgiving upon us, what are you thankful for this year?
