Today the Alberta Opera came to Evergreen to perform their fractured fairy tale "Rumpelstiltskin". This goes perfectly with what we are learning in LA about fairy tales and fractured fairy tales. The timing could not have been better. In preparation for today's performance, we analyzed the original "Rumpelstiltskin" as written by the Jacob and Whilem Grimm and identified the things that make it a fairy tale. We then read two more fairy tales to be sure we had it down pat. While we watched this afternoon's performance, the students were look for those same traits to see that although it is the story of Rumpelstiltskin, just fractured, it still had all of the following things:
- Setting
- Good Characters
- Bad Characters
- Magic
- A problem faced by the main character
- Threes or Sevens
- A Happy Ending
