Students went to library today to fill up their DEAR bags. After a fun discussion (using our shoes) about the finding a book with the perfect fit, each student was given a large bag to keep in the classroom. Once a week, students choose 2 materials at their reading level as well as the option of a magazine to add to their bag. During our silent reading time, they then should have plenty of material to choose from that interests them. Students are encouraged to choose chapter books (we even have a library section of easy chapter books for levels J and up!). Each week students will complete a book review of one of the books they chose!
Math started with our daily math review on the board. This was followed by a bit of a challenging lesson for some as we reviewed our number words from zero to one hundred. Mrs. Kelln has created and sent some supplement packages home to help struggling students in this area. Grade three will be a big jump in reading, writing, and math expectations and it's important we get a good solid start on it. Feel free to check out the extra math worksheets on our website HERE if your child needs more help now or throughout the year.
We began our Peru unit this afternoon in social as well. It's neat to learn about the nation symbols and flag! We even colored after. Did you know that potatoes were first grown in Peru? Cool, hey?
