October is here and with it... Turkeys!! Today we started our Thanksgiving writing with a poem about the Turkey's going on strike. They don't want to be our main meal on Thanksgiving! Students suggested turkey alternatives and then designed a plan to help the turkeys escape being dinner! This is leading up to our next Art project where some Turkeys will be going in disguise.
We continued the theme with our Mystery Skype with a grade 3 class in Ottawa, Ontario. Each class had an animal and guessed, using on yes and no questions, what the other class' animal was. Obviously (to us anyway) we choose a turkey while the other class had chosen an earthworm. It was tough, but we are working hard at developing our questioning skills, pulling detail out, inferring, and ultimately we guessed it! The other class need a few hints but they did excellent too! Here you can see a small snippet of our class answering the questions of the Ottawa class while they tried to guess a turkey. We then shared some information about each of our places as well as what we are learning in school. | |
We finished up our math (and a few had time to continue their handwriting practice) and then we all snuck out for a bit of fresh air while the sun still shined. October is still treating us well. Then it was time for our lovely lunch, some DEAR time, more learning about rocks and minerals and we finished the day up with computers.
