Students were thrilled to start their handwriting practice today. Although it is not in our curriculum, we still introduce the basic skills of cursive writing to students in grade 3 in our class. Cursive is still used in many different formats and students may need to read another person's cursive writing as well so it's best that they are comfortable with it. As this is the first time they are introduced to it, the focus is on the basics but it might be nice for you to expose your child to some cursive at home as well. For example, jot a short note in handwriting for them to find or encourage them to leave a note for you. It's exciting for them and they learn at the same time!
What do you think? Is cursive writing still relevant? Comment on the blog and let the kids know why they should learn how to hand write!
Students continued to learn about rocks in science and students heard that there are 3 main types: sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic. They were keen to share their knowledge of how water and wind can break down the rocks and how rocks can change with heat and pressure.
Our last block had us reading during DEAR, heading off to Mrs. Manicom for music, starting our portfolio for the year by adding our September learning samples, and finishing off our agenda. Have a wonderful evening everyone!
