Today we continued to work on our reading comprehension skills by reading the story, "Alice's Secret Diary" out loud together and discussing it. We answered some questions and played a mystery word game too!
Snack is always fun. It's great to see healthy snacks in the lunches and the kids are pretty good at making healthy choices before their treats. With having two nutrition breaks it gives us a chance to refuel our brains as needed throughout the day.
After our math review (during which many like to move to the floor to do), we were out side for some Eagle Eye, tag, and leapfrog games. A couple students, Riley and Rick, were invited to attend the Ronald's Readers program where they get to read and hangout with the Drayton Valley Thunder players.
We then learned about Terry Fox. We learned that he started his run in the most eastern part of Canada and planned to run all the way across to the most western part in BC. Sadly, the cancer came back as he passed through Thunder Bay Ontario and he couldn't finish his marathon of hope before he died. We knew he was trying to raise one dollar for every Canadian to help help with cancer research. In recognition of this, student are asked to bring a "toonie for Terry" (or any small amount) to donate. We will collect the toonies in the morning and then go for our run in the middle block. All students are then invited to take part in our "Color Me Red" event held tomorrow night at our Meet the Teacher BBQ. Remember only Evergreen students who have eye protection (sunglasses, goggles, etc.) can participate.
Speaking of the BBQ just a quick reminder that tomorrow is the Meet the Teacher night so stop in between 5:30 and 6 and say hello! The free BBQ starts at 6:00 with the Color Me Red event starting around 6:45. It should be a great evening!
We finished off the day with our DEAR time, and a kid favorite - computers! During computer time they accessed their Raz-Kids and worked on completing a level. Remember, you can also access this at home using the information sent on the login card. Students who complete a full level earn a free computer period each time!
